Love and Pie

peanut butter pie

by JenniferA - Bread and Putter on August 12, 2011

I do not know Jennifer Perillo personally.  I’ve heard of her and her very popular blog, In Jennie’s Kitchen, and she was at the Big Summer Potluck.  There were so many new people to meet and somehow I never did actually meet Jennifer.  But, my heart still breaks for her.  Jennie’s husband Mikey passed away suddenly this week with no time to say goodbye. Somehow, she found the strength to write this beautiful post and encourage us all to make this pie for someone we love today.

So, I made this pie today for this guy. For my husband, Larry, and in tribute to Mikey. And in celebration of love.

As it happens, our anniversary is next week.  We’ve been married for 9 years, together for over 14.  And, as it happens, we both have big birthdays this year.  His daughters surprised us last weekend with this:

There’s some creative math on that cake.

It was wonderful to share that cake with family and just be together.  Unfortunately, we never know how many more birthdays or anniversaries we might have together.  So, hug your loved ones a little longer today.  Make food for them, share it together.  Enjoy the moments.  Cherish the time.

A simple but profound sentiment and one we know but sometimes fail to ‘really’ remember. Love the cake; will ignore the 90.

I’ll just say that I woudn’t consider 45 a “big” birthday and neither of us is 60. :-)
