Here I am

a cute dog with a santa hat

Oh, hi! There you are.  Here I am.  I have this blog thingie and sometimes people read it. I guess I took a little break from the part where I write it. Oopsie. What can I say except for life happens? I can’t really pinpoint one particular thing but apparently during the Christmas rush, this blog took a backseat. I kept intending to write a quick post but then I’d remember that I hadn’t actually cooked or baked anything new. The last few weeks have been about just getting food on the table in between working, shopping, wrapping, holiday partying and my new obsession, sweating. No, I didn’t have a fever, but I did take up hot yoga and I love it. It’s time to work some kinks out of this 40-year-old body and stop feeling even older.

And then I was going to maybe write a quick post about some Christmas cookies I was planning to try from Baked By Rachel and Lauren’s Latest, but with less than a week before Christmas I was struck down with a nasty cold and didn’t feel much like typing or organizing thoughts and links and stuff.  It seemed far too difficult when there was more nose blowing and going to bed early to do.

So, yep, excuses!  I got lots of them!  Anyway, I hope your holidays have been happy and Santa brought you everything you wanted. I got some neato food related gifts and gadgets for Christmas. Wanna see?  Okay!

My sister gave me a bunch of fun gadgets including these – the egg ring eggie guy, a seriously nice heavy wooden spatula, and that thing in the middle which cracks me up! It’s a tool to grab hot oven grates or hot dishes in the oven and it’s a little devil’s head. You can use the top of the head to shove stuff back in. Too cute! He can live in my utensil rack on top of the counter so I can see his insane little face everyday.

She also gave me this sturdy pepper grinder because I keep breaking lesser models. (What?! I grind a lot of pepper. Violently.)

Of course, I had to test out all 5 coarseness settings:

My dad gave me some possible blog inspiration in the form of lots of new recipes:

My mother and my husband gave me cutlery – the gentle salad making kind and serious chef’s chop anything and mean it kind. I took that chef’s knife out of the package and held it in my hand and it immediately felt comfortable and balanced. I think me and that knife are going to be good friends.

My husband also gave me this gizmo:

It’s the Vinturi Wine Aerator. I have to admit I’d never heard of the thing but it sure sounds cool! I will have to make the sacrifice and try it out with many bottles of wine just to let you, my dear readers, know if it is worth the hype. Someone has to do it!

I have to say one of the most intriguing things I received was also from my sister – as seen on TV!

It’s the Robo-Stir! I’d never heard of this bad boy before either but I think it is going to make me very happy. I don’t know about you but one of my least favorite directions in a recipe (other than chill 24 hours when you planned to cook it that day) is stir constantly. Especially, stir constantly for 10 minutes or more. WHAT! That’s a lot of freaking stirring. That’s enough to make me say, huh, maybe I don’t actually want to try this super delicious sounding recipe. Check it out!

How nifty is that? That’s on low speed. It moves all around the pot too and has little silicone feet so it doensn’t damage anything. Fabulous!

So, how was your Christmas? Get anything wonderful? Got any recipes that include a lot of stirring I should try?

Looks like you were on the “nice” list. Santa left a few kitchen goodies under the tree for me as well but nothing as cool as the oven pull.

Isn’t he hilarious?

The nice wooden spatula made me think of you. That’s going to deserve some wood butter love.

I’m so glad the devil pull amused you as much as it did me! I love how he looks sticking out of your utensil rack! And thanks for posting the video of the RoboStir – I was really curious about how it looked when it worked!

I had to test that thing out immediately! So cool. Thanks again for everything!

Could have used that robostir when I was making the pomegranate jelly for the chocolate pomegranate torte which put Kenny into chocolate heaven….

Sounds worth the stir!

I have seen that robo-stir on TV. I’m a closet AS SEEN ON TV junkie. Let us know if it is any good! So, your sister gave you a little Devil helper for the kitchen, eh? 😉

Those as seen on TV things sure do seem compelling sometimes. Do you have a Shamwow???

I decided not to dig deep into the meaning of the little devil other than it cracked us both up.
